Australian Dodgeroos Selection & Premier League Re-Launch

After an amazing event at the 2024 Asian Championships in Saudi Arabia, Dodgeball Australia is excited to unveil our high performance plans for the year ahead.

With the Mixed Australian Dodgeroos crowned Asian champions, we are looking to build on from this achievement, and continue to develop more players, whilst growing our talent pool. With the standard of dodgeball improving across the board at international level, we need a more refined approach at high performance level.

Australian Dodgeroos International Schedule

The Australian Dodgeroos will have the following international commitments over the next 12 months:

  • International tournament in South-East / East Asia, scheduled for the second-half of 2024 (location & date TBC in the coming weeks)
  • World Cup, scheduled for early 2025 (location & date TBC)

How Can Players Be Eligible For Australian Dodgeroos Selection

Initially, this will be done through two avenues:

  • Playing in the Victorian Premier League (VPL). Register / Info Here
  • Developing players through our Dodgeroos Academy

The VPL will begin in late-April and run throughout the year (every 3 – 4 weeks on average). This is a continuation of the Australian Dodgeball Premier League (ADPL), which ran from 2016 – 19, helping develop a large pool of players for the national team.

Registered players will be selected from the VPL to attend the Dodgeroos Academy.

Players wishing to be in contention, selected and actively involved in the Dodgeroos Academy must:

– Be registered and actively play in the VPL (Victorian-based players).

– Perform and excel at a high level during competition

– Demonstrate the attitude required to succeed as a high performance athlete

The Dodgeroos Academy will involve training sessions, education, expertise coaching, while also having the ability to trial for the Australian Dodgeroos.

Through the VPL & Academy, the objective is to enhance our high performance programs at national team level, learn different training regimes, tactics and importantly, the playing philosophy and ethos of the Australian Dodgeroos.

Players can be actively involved with the Dodgeroos Academy if they don’t wish to play at international level. The primary objective is to develop and grow the talent pool of players domestically.

Organised training sessions will initially be conducted monthly, beginning in March, with a training schedule planned for the year. Players will be in contention to be selected for international tournaments.

Players outside Victoria, can be actively involved in the Dodgeroos Academy, including guest appearances in the VPL. To enquire about being involved in the national team, or if there’s interest to help build a program in your area, please reach out to us.
