2018 Australian Dodgeroos Selection Process
The Australian Dodgeroos have an important year ahead, following qualification to the 2018 World Cup in New York, at Madison Square Garden.
In preparation for the 2018 international season, Dodgeball Federation Australia has some key announcements, which will incorporate the selection criteria and the process moving forward.
Australian Dodgeroos Academy Launch
Dodgeball Federation Australia is proud to officially launch the Australian Dodgeroos Academy. The Academy will act as a centre of excellence for players wishing to excel at the high performance level, through coordinated training programs and coaching.
To be in contention for selection and actively involved in the 2018 Dodgeroos Academy and World Cup squad, the DFA will adhere to the following criteria:
General Criteria For Dodgeroos Selection:
– Perform and excel at a high level during club competition and demonstrate the attitude and commitment required to succeed as a high performance athlete in the Dodgeroos. Matches are filmed during the ADPL season, allowing coaches to scout and assess players in match conditions throughout the year.
Dodgeroos Academy: First Intake Announcement on December 4, 2017:
– Players based in Victoria / New South Wales must have been actively playing in their local ADPL (minimum 50% attendance of rounds throughout the 2017 season)
– Players selected in the 2017 Dodgeroos Squad at the Asia Pacific Championships will flow on into the 2018 Dodgeroos Academy, on the provision they adhere to the general criteria, and possess the attitude to be involved as a high performance athlete.
– Talent Identification Program: Coaches may elect to select players new in the 2017 ADPL system, who they believe fit into the culture and specifically have the potential and talent to progress as a player in the Dodgeroos Academy. These players may not have played the minimum games (listed above), but possess the traits under the Talent Identification Program.
– Stage 1 (Preliminary Intake) participants will have two training sessions (further details to follow), to determine who will progress to Stage 2 – announcement on Monday, January 22.
2018 Criteria for Dodgeroos Academy Players, Trialists and Selection:
– New players to ADPL and / or players who missed out on the initial selections in December, 2017 will be able to put their names forward for inclusion through the 2018 ADPL season for the Dodgeroos Academy.
An exclusive training session in Melbourne will also be held for active ADPL players not in the Dodgeroos Academy on Saturday, February 24, in order to put their name forward for selection. Players will only be in contention for selection if actively playing in the ADPL.
– Players based in New South Wales must be actively playing in their local ADPL (minimum 70% round attendance throughout the season).
– Male players must be actively playing ADPL in 2018 (minimum 70% of matches in the Men’s Division or play a minimum of 50% of matches in both the Men’s and Mixed Divisions – Victoria).
– Female players must be actively playing ADPL in 2018 (minimum 70% of matches in the Women’s Division or play a minimum of 50% of matches in both the Women’s and Mixed Divisions – Victoria).
– Players must be consistently playing in their local ADPL and adhere to the criteria, or will face omission from the squad at any point during the year, regardless if a player has been selected for the Academy and /or World Cup squad. This will be taken very seriously by the DFA and its coaches.
– If a player marginally falls short of the attendance figures due to a noted injury or personal reason (within 10%), this will be taken into consideration. An example of what would not be permitted – is a player resting from ADPL on a Friday or Saturday for no apparent reason or due to an injury, then attends Dodgeroos training that weekend.

Players that don’t have access to an ADPL competition in their state, can apply to be involved in the Dodgeroos Academy Second Intake, by submitting video footage and completing an online questionnaire. Further details will be disclosed in due course.
