World Dodgeball Association Accredited With IOC
World Dodgeball Association President, Tom Hickson recently traveled to the International Olympic Committee Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland to campaign for the sport of Dodgeball to be admitted into the Olympic Games.
WDA is now officially recognised and accredited with the IOC, and in doing so is the only global Dodgeball association to gain such recognition.
The WDA has been working closely with International Bodies, including Sports Accord, WADA, IOC and over 60 national governing bodies to develop, grow and nurture the sport from grassroots level, coaching and development, all the way through to the high performance level.
Initially recognised solely as a recreational sport, Dodgeball has significantly grown over the past 5 – 10 years. In doing so, next year’s World Cup will be held in New York, USA at the world renowned Madison Square Garden.
The commercial value of the sport, along with its corporate backing and high performance programs is continually setting new benchmarks, to allow the game to reach new heights on the international stage.
WDA’s newly established relationship with the IOC opens up an exciting world of opportunities for the sport. In the coming years, Dodgeball will be eligible to participate in IOC related events, including the Youth Olympics, Commonwealth Games, World Games, Paralympic Games and the Olympic Games.
The future is bright. We look forward to Dodgeball’s continual development and growth in the years to come.
