Australian Dodgeroos Crowned Asian Champions
The Chemist Warehouse Australian Dodgeroos have claimed the trifecta at the 2015 Asian Dodgeball Championships, taking home the Gold in each of the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed categories.
In doing so, the Australian Men’s and Women’s teams have successfully qualified for the 2016 World Dodgeball Association World Cup, taking place in Manchester, England from April 15 – 17. The Mixed team will also participate in the World Mixed Invitational Event, held alongside the World Cup.
This year’s Asian Championships was held in Melbourne, Australia at the Darebin Community Sports Stadium, with a total of four nations in attendance – Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
With the Australian Men’s team triumphing in the Final, the Malaysian team also qualified for the World Cup, following their defeat in the Final to Australia.
The Women’s category saw a highly competitive 9-match World Cup Play-Off Series, contested between Australia and Malaysia. Australia prevailed in the series with 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 loses.
The Women’s Dodgeroos earned automatic qualification to next year’s World Cup, while Malaysia have booked in a qualification spot, and will contest a World Cup qualifying play-off tie with Cameroon and Northern Ireland.
The Mixed Category once again witnessed Australia overcome Malaysia in another nail biting affair. The Aussies went on to win the match 9 – 5.
